WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

Spirituality is at the heart of this journey. Tom modestly does not promote his book as an authority on how to walk that road of solidarity with the poor, but that is what it is. I do believe, dear reader, that you will come to love Haiti, the people and the country, through Tom’s eyes. Their persevering love will simply draw you in. It’s irresistible. It’s a dance in Haitian time. So, what are you waiting for?

– Adele Della-Valle Rauth
Emeritus Coordinator Diocese of Richmond Haiti Twinning Ministry

“This book is a call to you and me to get engaged in making a difference in a world in which millions are dying from readily preventable and treatable conditions . . . I commend this book to those of you who want to do something constructive to make our world a better place.”

Henry B. Perry, MD, PhD, MPH
Senior Scientist, Health Systems Program, Department of International Health
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

“This is an excellent book that depicts well Haiti and its culture. I read so much that my eyes and head hurt – the book is hard to put down. Tom Fame is a great storyteller and has learned to know and appreciate Haiti.”

Dr. Tom Fame is a physician practicing in Salem Virginia. He has overseen the O.L.P.H. Haiti Project since establishing it in 1996. He has led many groups to the remote outpost of Cabestor in the Petit-Fonds Valley of Haiti’s Central Plateau, while working to improve the education, health, and economics of the people living there.
Tom has combined his God-given love for the Haitian people with solid public health primary health care programs to build community and local leadership.
This book is written as an adventure story that doubles as a guide to community mission work in another culture.
